Rachel Logan has been a professional air talent for over 12 years mainly in Atlanta, GA. with a stint in Tallahassee, FL. and most recently back to her home state of Maryland where she was on air for over 2 years on local Baltimore radio. Having talked to radio audiences and played the hits in the genres of Classic Rock, Pop, Country and Adult Contemporary, Rachel has entertained audiences quite successfully with her style, personality, wit, and creativity.
But it’s her love and passion for the rock genre of music, specifically Hair Metal and Melodic Rock, that bring her show, “Rachel’s Rock Refuge” to 97 Underground.
Created, produced and hosted by Logan, the show features the finest in Melodic Rock, Hair Metal and AOR from around the globe and within her show, you can expect stories, humor, artist info and killer interviews! Growing up in Maryland, Rachel remembers 97 Underground on the FM dial in the 80’s and was thrilled to hear the harder edged rock that other stations generally did not play. Says Rachel, “It’s a great feeling to come home to Maryland and to be a part of rock history on the one station that broke all the rules!”
We’re excited and proud to bring this 2 hour rock sensation directly to our loyal and enthusiastic rock audience here in Baltimore.
Rachel’s Rock Refuge airs twice weekly, Tuesdays at 2pm and on Thursdays at 10pm. All past episodes can be found right here. Check them out at your leisure! http://www.podcastgarden.com/podcast/rachelsrockrefuge
Mike Brilhart started 97 Underground with DJ partner, John Barton and General Manager Tom Pless back in April, 1982 in Dundalk, MD. At the time, the station played a mixture of new and classic rock before the format known as Classic Rock took to the FM airwaves. In 1987, Mike became Program Director of the resurrected 97 Underground-FM, playing solely hard rock and heavy metal. In addition, he worked as a DJ at Hammerjacks Night Club, the largest club on the East coast from 1987-1995, while assisting in promotions and band consulting for the club.
Mike and Tom resurrected 97 Underground online in 2006 and he’s been programming the station ever since! Mike’s voice can be heard throughout the station on promos and specialty shows. A Classic Rock air talent since 1995, Mike has honed his skills very well and is currently heard weeknights on Classic Rock, “100.7 The Bay” in Baltimore.
If that’s not enough, Mike is also an award winning audio engineer and has worked on countless movies and cable series.
Mike’s biggest thrill is knowing that someone who grew up with 97 Underground and moved away from Baltimore, is still able to rock out with their favorite station anywhere in the world!
Tom Pless started 97 Underground in April, 1982 in Dundalk, MD. Tom has a long history of radio and television call signs to his credit. Trained as a radio broadcast engineer, Tom worked at Mad Radio 13 WFBR-AM as a morning engineer for Johnny Walker, Chief Engineer at WWIN AM/FM and TV engineering at WMAR-TV ABC2. Tom, along with Derek Alan and Mike Brilhart began the concept of 97 Underground-FM in 1982 playing hard rock and heavy metal. As the GM “money manager”, so to speak, Tom opened up potential clients to a whole new audience wanting “Pure Rock” in Baltimore. After 97 Underground-FM, Tom was the Engineering Director of Underground 103.1 and WXZL-FM Baltimore. Mike and Tom resurrected 97 Underground online in 2006 and have continued to run the station for our listeners world wide. Tom is also an award winning Baltimore County educator for over 40 years. Tom continues to love the core of listeners that have never forgotten what 97 Underground meant to Baltimore radio during the 80’s. “Always imitated, never duplicated” 97 Underground continues to play the best in metal music. Thank you for listening!
